Concerns about Research Networks from Dialog 2004
Notes by David Levermore
- It needs to be stated clearly what needs networks fill both for the
mathematical community and for the nation --- and there must be
evidence for it.
- Any creation of networks should not take away from the program
of individual grants.
- The criteria and process for the peer review of networks needs
to be spelled out carefully.
- Guidelines for the size of networks should be worked out. If they
become too big then the peer review process would be compromised.
- The proper relationship between network PI's and beneficiaries
must be made clear in order to avoid cronyism.
- It should be clear how any appropriate university matching would
work for networks.
