Seattle, WA Professor Mark Marvin Meerschaert, 65, originally of Troy, Michigan, died of cancer on August 29, 2020 in his Seattle, WA home, attended by family. Mark graduated from Troy High School in 1973, and earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan. He was a prolific researcher, and considered many of his co-authors to be dear friends. Mark taught at Albion College and the Universities of Michigan, Michigan State, Washington, Nevada, and Otago (NZ). In 2017, he was recognized as a University Distinguished Professor at MSU. Mark is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carmen, children Bob (Michelle) of Seattle, WA, and Steve (Marina) of Royal Oak, MI; grandchildren Kai and Luna; mother Dorothy of Bay City, MI; siblings Mike (Kathy) of Alexandria, VA, Tom (Mary) of Bay City, MI, Gary (Terrie) of Clinton Township, MI, Wally (Amalin) of Fairfax, CA, Carol of Paoli, PA, Kevin of Jacksonville, FL, and JoAnn (Neal) of St. Cloud, MN. Mark was preceded in death by his father Marvin. Upon cremation, private ceremonies will be held. Memorials may be made to Mark's favorite charity, Habitat for Humanity.
