Jim Morrow (1941-2024)

Jim Morrow, Distinguished Professor of Mathematics, passed away in April 2024. He was a member of our department from 1969, and made groundbreaking contributions in several complex variables and in the field of inverse problems. He was the winner of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) Education Prize, the  Deborah and Franklin Haimo Awards for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America, the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) M. Gweneth Humphreys Award for Mentorship of Undergraduate Women, and was a Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics. He ran a groundbreaking research experience for undergraduates (REU) program at UW, as well as being the founder and lead organizer for the UW MathDay program, where over a thousand teachers and high school students are invited to the UW Seattle Campus to uncover the exciting, practical and rewarding world of mathematics.
