Submitted by Rose Choi on

With the start of the Mathematical Association of America’s summer MathFest on July 26 in Chicago, the MAA announced recipients of a slate of awards, including the Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University Mathematics Faculty Member. Steve Klee, affiliate assistant professor in our department and 2010 PhD under the supervision of Isabella Novik, received one of two Alder awards "for seamlessly incorporating undergraduate research into his classroom curriculum and mentoring student researchers who go on to publish and present their work." A faculty member at Seattle University since 2012, Steve continues to be involved in our department life through research with Isabella and our graduate students, organizing the UW Math Circle jointly with Julia Pevtsova, and teaching high school students in our Summer Institute for Math at UW.
