Two promotions take effect in mid-September: Ethan Devinatz to Professor and Bianca Viray to Associate Professor. Ethan joined the department in 1991, after six years at the University of Chicago as a Dickson Instructor, NSF postdoctoral fellow, and assistant professor. Shortly after arrival, he was named a Sloan Research Fellow. His research is in algebraic topology. Bianca joined the department in 2014, after four years at Brown University as a Tamarkin Assistant Professor and NSF postdoctoral fellow. She currently has an NSF CAREER grant. Her research is in number theory and algebraic geometry.
