Length Spectral Rigidity of Flat and Hyperbolic Metrics

Marissa Loving, Georgia Tech
Tuesday, April 13, 2021 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Zoom (link will be distributed via email; if you'd like to attend please email Silvia at ghinassi@uw.edu. Only polite emails will receive consideration)
In this talk, I will give a quick (20 minute) introduction to the notion of length spectral equivalence of metrics on surfaces. After a brief (20 minute) intermission, we will return for a 40 minute talk focused on exploring length spectral questions from two different perspectives:
  1. flat metrics (together with their marked length spectra), and
  2. hyperbolic metrics (together with their unmarked simple length spectra).
I will discuss both my own solo work as well as joint work with Tarik Aougab, Max Lahn, Nick Miller, and Sunny Yang Xiao (in various configurations). My aim is for both portions of my talk to be accessible to a wide audience of graduate students, postdocs, and faculty.
