As the fall quarter comes to a close, we wanted to acknowledge that getting a PhD in math is a challenge.  Living above the 47th parallel can also be challenging at this time of year.   If you are first-year grad student and have some questions about the PhD program or how to live up to the challenge,  come chat with us.   We hope to use the snack time after the Current Topics seminar on Thursday to discuss first-year concerns.   We would like to talk about some of the different approaches to making this year and subsequent years productive and fun.  The discussion is open to all no matter what year you are in the program.   Mathematics is a big beautiful area of scientific research and as you can see from the Current Topic Seminar already there is a lot of excitement and depth to the work going on here.  We hope you will reach out and grab the opportunities around you.
