Surviving and Thriving in the First Year of Grad School

Sara Billey, Isabella Novik, Alex Wang (and likely a few more)
Thursday, April 18, 2024 - 4:30pm to 6:00pm
PDL C-38
This event is about giving 1st year graduate students and members of the graduate committee a chance to meet and talk about the program.  We want to support you as you navigate through the whole phd program, particularly this first year.    This year is about digging deeply into some core mathematics, working hard on homework, fine tuning your mathematical writing skills, meeting new people, and developing some connections.  Now that you have been here for a while, we would like to check in and have a discussion about how it's going.   We hope to talk about what strategies are working for you, share some tips for the next steps in your transition toward being a professional mathematician, and answer questions that have come up.   We can also talk about the expectations for the writing milestone and what steps you should be taking at some point this calendar year.  Please join us for a group discussion with time for questions and student input.   Then, all are invited to walk together to U. Village for dinner paid for by the department.
