Title: What are...slc and DB singularities?
Abstract: I will explain how and why slc singularities are a good choice when we want to compactify moduli spaces. This will (finally) include a definition as well. I will also explain what Du Bois singularities are and why they are useful, especially for moduli questions. Time permitting I will also talk about Grothendieck duality and singularities with liftable local cohomology. Grothendieck duality is an important tool for studying these singularities, but it is likely that we will not get too far into that aspect in this talk. However, I hope to show at least one cool (and quick) application of it.
