Much of what can be said about Lie groups comes from studying their Lie algebras. But when does the Lie algebra not give us everything? We will look at the relationship between affine group schemes and their Lie algebras over a field of positive characteristic and highlight the differences from the characteristic 0 case. As motivation, we will look at examples related to the special linear group and do some concrete computations.
