Title: An invitation to Monge-Kantorovich optimal transport theory
Abstract: The modern theory of optimal transport is barely two decades old. Already it has established itself as one of the most happening areas in modern mathematics. It lies at the intersection of analysis (PDE), geometry, and probability with numerous applications to physics, economics, and serious machine learning. This talk will try to cover aspects of this theory and try to show why this theory is so cool and useful. It is also an ad for a graduate special topics course on optimal transport that I plan to offer next year.
