Title: Pattern avoidance in combinatorics and geometry
Abstract: A large number of important geometric properties can be studeid from a combinatorial point of view; when that is done, it often turns out that these properties can be characterized by pattern avoidance (or inclusion). Such characterizations have been obtained by Sara Billey and me in the department and many others outside it. I will present a survey of this rich topic.
