Average size of the automorphism group of smooth projective hypersurfaces 

We show that the average size of the automorphism group over F_q of a smooth degree d hypersurface in P^n_{F_q} is equal to 1  as d tends to infinity. We also discuss some consequences of this result for the moduli space of smooth degree d hypersurfaces in P^n.
