MINUTES
The regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics was held in-person in C-38 Padelford Hall and virtually via Zoom at 3:30pm PST, November 1, 2022. John Palmieri, Chair, presided at the meeting. Rose Choi was recording secretary.
The meeting began with approval of the previous meeting’s minutes.
Chair's Remarks
Open enrollment starts today so if you would like to change your healthcare coverage you have until the end of November to do so.
Ballots for Washington state elections are due in a week. I encourage everyone to go out and vote.
The quarterly beer bash is being planned for December 9th. Details will be shared once available.
When discussing personnel matters in executive session, it’s crucial that faculty feel comfortable to speak freely and openly. These discussions provide background for departmental decisions that are sent along to the college, as well as contributing to the overall process within the department. Faculty should be able to express their concerns in these closed sessions without fear of recourse and with the understanding that these comments are temporary statements meant to provide honest and, ultimately, helpful feedback.
The 2023 meeting schedule was reviewed and approved.
Committee Reports
The Appointments Committee is gathering info on how faculty regard the recent appointments process and what changes should be considered moving forward. An anonymous survey will be sent via email today.
The Undergraduate Program Committee proposes creating a new course titled “Introduction to Taylor Polynomials and Taylor Series” effective Autumn 2023. Details were shared via email to voting faculty. A vote was held, passed, and approved.
