1-2-3 Seminar: Nilpotence, Gröbner Bases, and Hilbert Schemes

I will give a brief overview of the theory of varieties and motivate why the theory of schemes is more flexible. I will then give an overview of the theory of Gröbner bases, and as an application I will construct a variety/scheme whose points correspond to configurations of points in the plane. No background in algebraic geometry is assumed.
