Geometry and Dynamics Seminar: Symmetric Matrices, Foliations, and Veech Groups

Abstract: With definitions and examples we will discuss the relationship between symmetric matrices and foliations of (translation) surfaces. Then we will focus on particular types of foliations: Those generated by the Veech group of translations surfaces.
