MINUTES
The regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics was held virtually via Zoom at 3:30pm PST, April 2, 2024. Max Lieblich, Chair, presided over the meeting. Rose Choi was the recording secretary.
The meeting began with approval of the previous meeting’s minutes.
Chair's Remarks
The chair thanked the members of the Appointments Committee along with all the faculty who helped with the recruiting efforts of this year’s tenure-track search. We have successfully recruited three people: Piotr Pstrągowski, Dan Mikulincer, and Giovanni Inchiostro. Dan and Giovanni will be joining us in the Fall; Piotr will arrive in January of 2026.
The chair opened the floor to faculty who wished to share their memories of Jim Morrow. Details for his remembrance ceremony will be shared as soon as they are available.
Announcements
There are travel awards available to researchers interested in attending a PIMS/BIRS workshop. An email will be sent with details on how to apply.
The Diversity Committee is collecting questions and news to share at their upcoming meeting with Maya Smith, the CAS associate dean for equity, justice and inclusion. Please send emails to any of the committee members.
The department’s faculty senator, Farbod Shokrieh, is requesting input from the department on two proposed pieces of legislation being brought to the Faculty Senate pertaining to promotion and retention. An email with details has been shared with the voting faculty.

There being no new business, the meeting passed into executive session at 4:26pm.
