v1-periodic motivic homotopy over prime fields

In the 1960's, Adams computed the image of the J-homomorphism in the stable homotopy groups of spheres. In this talk, I will discuss work computing the "motivic image-of-J" over prime fields and its application to understanding periodic phenomena in the motivic stable homotopy groups of spheres over arbitrary base fields. Time permitting, I will also discuss work-in-progress connecting these computations to the motivic Adams spectral sequence based on very effective Hermitian K-theory. This is joint work with Hana Jia Kong.

There will be a pre-talk geared towards graduate students before the main talk, 2:30-3:15pm in THO 234. (THO is Thompson Hall; see https://goo.gl/maps/FLJT4BjpcnzEU7xSA for walking directions from PDL.)
